Royal Enfield is now working on Electric bikes, Confirms by its CEO – Insiderfolks, Automobile manufacturers in India are rushing to capture a slice of the country’s rising electric vehicle segment.
The same happens to Royal Enfield, one of the major names in the two-wheeler market, who now needs to go electrical.
Royal Enfield has recently already built several designs of electric two-wheelers as part of its broader electric mobility program. The country’s EV policy is now in the process of being developed.
The assurance of the electric drive comes from none other than the CEO of the group. Vinod Dasari, Chief Executive Officer of Royal Enfield, in an interview with Moneycontrol, said, “Electric is something we’ve been dreaming about for quite some time. We ‘re trying to work out exactly which segment is correct for us. Electric is something we’re taking quite seriously.”
Dasari did not really disclose too much of the company’s requirements for bringing electric vehicles to the region. However, he referred to the significance of the step, noting that it was a “significant” target for the company.
Dasari said that it is no longer a matter of ‘whether’ there are electric vehicles. Instead, Royal Enfield insists on ‘when’ these hybrid cars will start.
Royal Enfield has already built prototypes for different two-wheeler models to be ready for the industry once the EV movement in India hits the accelerator.
Though powerful electric cars set the standard for the success of electric vehicles, the two-wheeler segment is boosting the adoption of EVs in the region.
This is also the explanation why, even though the major players are still busy strategizing their strategies against electric two-wheelers, we have seen many new business entrants in the form of start-ups that concentrate on providing an electrical solution to mobility needs in India.
