Kang The Conqueror Is Confirmed By Disney as a Villain For Ant-Man 3, Played by Jonathan Majors.
Kang The Conqueror Confirms For Ant-Man 3, Marvel Studios has officially announced Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the third film in the series, and confirmed Jonathan Majors as playing the villain, Kang the Conqueror.
Absolutely massive amount of content coming from the studio, another Ant-Man movie hasn’t seemed to be a top priority. And yet, with how important the Quantum Realm was in Avengers: Endgame and the role it’s going to play in the MCU’s future, it certainly makes sense to have another film centered on the characters most strongly linked with the Quantum Realm.
After introducing Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), and his daughter, Hope (Evangeline Lilly) in the first Ant-Man, the whole gang returned for Ant-Man and The Wasp – this time with Lilly’s Wasp joining in on the superheroics with Rudd’s Ant-Man.
The pair proved an effective team, and along with Hank, rescued Hope’s mother, Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) from the Quantum Realm. Then came the Decimation in Avengers: Infinity War and all but Scott was lost, but since the events of Endgame, the Pym-Van Dyne family has been returned.
Now, the two generations of Ant-Men and Wasps are ready for action in the franchise’s third film where they’ll be facing off against one of Marvel’s most fearsome villains.
The announcement that Ant-Man 3 is officially titled Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania came during the Marvel Studios section of Disney’s annual investors call. Along with the title reveal, it was also confirmed the villain, Kang the Conqueror will appear and is being played by Jonathan Majors.
Returning are Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, and Michelle Pfeiffer, as well as director Peyton Reed. Additionally, Kathryn Newton is joining the cast as an older Cassie Lang, Scott’s daughter, replacing Emma Fuhrmann who appeared in Endgame.
The have been rumors of Majors playing Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man 3 for a few months now, so it isn’t entirely surprising to have it finally confirmed by Marvel. Most recently, Majors appeared in HBO’s Lovecraft Country to great acclaim, so to have him join the MCU as a villain is exciting.
As for Kang, he’s a Marvel character with a long and convoluted history, but he’s fundamentally a villain who uses time travel. That neatly ties him into the Quantum Realm, which in Endgame was shown to be key for traveling through time.
The full title, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, also hints at the Quantum Realm playing a bigger role in the movie. Not only that, but smashing together “quantum” and “mania” is just the sort of title Scott Lang would think up was he naming the movie. It’s a fun, silly name that works perfectly within the more lighthearted Ant-Man series. To that end, it’ll be interesting to see how the MCU adapts Kang, and if they tailor their version of the character to fit the tone of the Ant-Man movies. Hopefully, more specifics about Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania are revealed sooner rather than later.
