From A Quiet Place Part II to Black Widow, the 2020 release calendar has been torn apart by Covid-19. Here’s a running list of the changes so far.

Every Major Movie Release Date Affected by the Coronavirus Pandemic, In less than one week, the coronavirus pandemic single-handedly wiped out moviegoing in the United States, closing theaters around the country and forcing studios to boot potential blockbusters off long-held and carefully programmed release dates.

As of now, every major studio and indie movie that had been set to arrive on screens between this weekend and Memorial Day has been indefinitely postponed or rescheduled; in fact, the earliest audiences will get to see a new film in theaters is May 30, when Disney will, it hopes, release Artemis Fowl.

The broad upheaval has thrown the industry asunder, with productions frozen and studios trying new ways to connect with old consumers. For NBCUniversal, that meant offering up recent releases like The Hunt and Invisible Man as well as the forthcoming Trolls World Tour to home viewers for on-demand rental; for others, like Disney and WarnerMedia, it meant pushing recent films like Frozen II and Birds of Prey to streaming platforms sooner than anticipated.

Through it all, however, theater owners as a group remain upbeat, despite the potential for billions of dollars in overall losses. “No one can precisely predict when public life will return to normal, but it will return,” the National Society of Theater Owners said in a statement this week amid the theatrical downturn.

“The social nature of human beings—the thing that exposes us to contagion, and that makes it so difficult to change behavior in response to pandemic threats—is also the thing that gives us confidence in the future.

People will return to movie theaters because that is who people are. When they return they will rediscover a cutting edge, immersive entertainment experience that they have been forcefully reminded they cannot replicate at home.

In the uncertain, difficult economy ahead, movie theaters will fill the role they always have in boom times and in recessions—the most popular, affordable entertainment available outside the home.”

For now, however, the industry has hit pause. Ahead, a full list of every major movie release affected by the coronavirus pandemic. This list will be updated as more movies are delayed.
