Henry Cavill is expected back as a Superman for upcoming DC comics Movies
Henry Cavill allegedly Gearing Up to Return to the Superman – Insider folks, Henry Cavill is expected back as a Superman for upcoming DC Comics Movies, Warner Bros opened DC Extended Universe in 2013 with Man of Steel, Henry Cavill inheriting Brandon Routh’s Superman role.
Cavill returned to play the Kryptonian vigilante in Batman v Superman: the dawn of the Law and Justice League, but since then it’s not known whether he’d wear the costume again. Now word’s come in that plans are in motion to make it happen.
According to Deadline, Henry Cavill is in talks with Warner Bros to play Superman again, although it wouldn’t be Man of Steel 2. Instead, the article simply says that the actor could “come back in a few different ways.”
For anyone in need a refresher, Superman was revived in the Justice League by Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash and Cyborg, using a mixture a Kryptonian and Apokoliptan technology.
After his head cleared, Supes joined the other superheroes in defeating Steppenwolf, and with the world saved, he returned to both his civilian life and resumed protecting humanity.
Superman came at the end of Shazam, too! , but it was Zachary Levi’s stunt double, Ryan Hadley, who performed it, showing the character from the neck down.
With the announcement of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, a.k.a. Snyder Cut, hitting HBO Max next year, fans of Henry Cavill’s Superman were guaranteed at least one more appearance from him, as we would see him in a different light compared to how he was portrayed in the Justice League theatrical cut.
Even, we had been in the dark for a long time on what was next for Superman, and it was also announced in September 2018 that Cavill will no longer play him, a comment to which Warner Bros gave a cagey reaction.
Although Man of Steel 2 has been in the works for years and Henry Cavill has expressed interest in the project, according to this latest update, it doesn’t look like a sequel adventure for this version of Superman is in the cards anymore. So then, what exactly do Warner Bros and DC have in mind about the character going forward?
To me, it sounds like Superman is positioned in the same way as The Hulk is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, i.e. he’s a superhero who pops up in the movies of other characters, but we’re not going to lead his own adventure again.
It’s possible that could change the line, and Warner Bros will decide to re-engineer Man of Steel 2, but for now, at least we know that there’s an effort to bring back Cavill’s Superman, even if he’s back at the center stage.
As far as Henry Cavill’s Superman movies is concerned, we should rule out Wonder Woman 1984 and The Suicide Squad, the former being done and the latter having already started the main shooting. We can also cross The Batman off the list because not only is it in the middle of filming, but it’s set in a separate continuity from the one in which this version of Superman lives.
Even, there are plenty of choices left, such as Black Adam, Flash, Aquaman 2 and Shazam! 2. At one time, it was also reported that Warner Bros had a Supergirl movie in the works, but the studio was forced to place the film on hold in lieu of getting Superman back to the big screen.
