Madras High Court Asks Patanjali to pay a fine Of RS 10 Lakhs – Insider folks, On Thursday, the High Court of Madras forbade Patanjali Ayurved Limited and Divya Yog Mandir Trust from the brand “Coronil” for the drug it created and marketed as a remedy for the novel coronavirus.
The High Court also levied a penalty of Rs 10 lakh on the corporation for “hunting income by inducing fear and confusion among the general public by promising a cure for coronavirus when, in reality, its” coronil pill “is not a cure but only an immune booster for cold , cough and fever.”
The order was issued to Justice CV Kartikeyan at the hearing of the suit filed by Arudra Engineers Private Limited-a Chennai-based business which argued that ‘Coronil’ had been a trademark of its own since 1993.
The licensed trademark of the product, ‘CORONIL-92 B,’ is an acid deterrent for cleaning heavy machinery and chemical formulations for industrial use.
The court’s order noted that ‘there are charities who support citizens in this crucial time without requesting publicity and that it should be reasonable for the defendants to cover the costs.’
In compliance with the order, Patanjali Ayurved Limited and Divya Yog Mandir Trust, both operated by Ramdev, will have to jointly pay Rs 5 lakh to Adyar Cancer Institute and Rs 5 lakh to Government Yoga and Naturopathy Medical College and Hospital ‘as each of these organisations have given care free of expense, trade mark, copyright or design and only on the slogan of operation.’
The suspects were told to settle the penalty by 21 August.
