74th Independence day Celebrations 2020 – Insiderfolks, August 15 will be observed as Independence Day in India. On August 15, 1947, India was given freedom from the British Empire. The day is observed annually on August 15th as a national holiday in the region.
After years of resistance and liberation led by numerous freedom fighters, the nation achieved independence from international control. The freedom campaign, known for mostly non-violent opposition and civil disobedience, was led by Mahatma Gandhi.
The separation of India has contributed to the partition of the world into two pieces. The British Indian Empire was split along ethnic lines between the Dominions of India and Pakistan. The division was followed by ethnic protests with major deaths and the exodus of more than 15 million people.
On 15 August 1947, Jawaharlal Nehru, who was the first Prime Minister of India, lifted the Indian national flag over the Red Fort Lahori Gate in Delhi. Every each following Independence Day, the Prime Minister of the nation lifted the flag and delivered a podium address.
The day is observed throughout the world with flag-hosting services, parades and a variety of cultural activities.
