Jammu and Kashmir Amarnath Yatra likely start from July 21, 500 pilgrims per day – Insiderfolks, The annual Amarnath Yatra in the Himalayas will be staged and not more than 500 pilgrims will be permitted to visit the holy cave shrine of Lord Shiva every day due to the coronavirus pandemic, officials said on Wednesday.

In the high level meeting of Union Minister G Kishan Reddy and Jitendra Singh and senior officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and of the Jammu and Kashmir Department, the question of pilgrimages to the Amarnath and Vaisnodevi shrines, both in Jammu and Kashmir, was addressed.

The Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to begin on 21 July.

“The pilgrimage will take place staggeredly this year and, because of the circumstances of COVID-19,” an official privy said, “no more than 500 pilgrims will be allowed to visit the Shrine everyday.”

About 9,000 people in the Union have been positive COVID-19 tested and about 145 have succeeded.

The Pahalgam Road is still to be settled since it is full of snow and this year’s pilgrimage can only be allowed via the Baltal Road.

However, the official stated that, later next week, a final decision on the pilgrimage to the Himalayas will be made.

The authorities are worried particularly regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, because the virus signs and high level infections are almost similar.

Which involve introducing centrally funded projects, moving towards the achievement of goals under the 2015 Prime Minister Development Programme, concerns presented in January of this year during the Union Ministers’ campaigns, and problems leading to the enforcement of the J&K Reorganisation Act.

On 5 August 2019, after the abrogation of its special status as per Article 370 the former state of Jammu and Kashmir became two UTs. October 31 , 2019 saw the creation of the UTs – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakhe.

Jammu and Kashmir’s lieutenant Governor G C Murmu, Chief Secretary B V R Subrahmanyam, division commissioners from Kashmir and Jammu and other high officers were also present at the meeting by videoconferencing.
