Just five villages in Haryana have joined hands to collect a remarkable 51 crore for the Covid-19 relief fund, even as their own cases have been in one digit. But, according to recent sources, the inhabitants of these villages have often reported that they do not have access to essential services, even with all this money.
They Don’t Have Electricity or Schools. But, 5 Haryana Village Contributed with Rs.51 Crore for Covid-19 Efforts – Insiderfolks, In recent months, some of the wealthiest villages in Haryana have rendered rather generous donations to the fight against coronavirus.
Just five villages in the state have joined hands to collect a remarkable 51 crore for the Covid-19 relief fund, according to a recent survey.
Despite the contribution of such significant amounts, though, only five successful cases have been registered in these communities, with a few confirmed zero cases after the pandemic hit.
Now, according to recent studies, the inhabitants of these villages have often reported that they do not have access to basic amenities, even with all that money.
In the village of Palra, for example, which contributed 21 crore to the Covid-19 project, villagers complain that there is only one school, which only takes students up to Class X. Higher education needs students to move to other schools a few kilometers away, according to the NDTV article, rendering it a nightmare for young girls.
Elsewhere, in Sonipat ‘s village of Sersa, residents told reporters that they only get electricity for two hours a day, and that the community doesn’t even have a primary health center. This is despite the donation of 11 crore to the Covid-19 relief fund.
The explanation these villages are so cash-flowing is that they are the regular focus of land development programs. Palra, according to the report, still has 23 crore left after their generous contribution to the fund.
One of these settlements, Bal Jattan, is 15 kilometers from Panipat. Since it is home to Indian Oil Refinery and a variety of plants, Bal Jattan is one of the wealthiest villages in Haryana, with over 125 crores in its account, The Print published.
But locals told the report that the factory and chemical facilities in the nearby region have triggered significant local safety problems. “The village has enough resources, but we just need permission to carry out development activities in the village,” Panchayat said in the publication.
Since having these substantial donations, ideally, the state government will take note and the panchayats will be willing to better improve the villages.
