Sonic The Hedgehog 3 and spin-off series in development – Insiderfolks
Paramount has confirmed work on the upcoming third movie in the film series based on the iconic video game franchise is already underway before the second has even been released, while a live-action spin-off show is also in the pipeline.
Sega Corporation CEO Haruki Satomi stated in a statement, “We are thrilled to report that the third ‘Sonic’ theatrical feature and the first live-action ‘Sonic‘ series for Paramount+ are actively being created.”
“We have an incredible connection with Paramount, and we are delighted to continue extending the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise with them.”
“2022 is shaping up to be a significant year for the franchise with the second film being released this April, as well as ‘Sonic Frontiers’, the highly anticipated video game title, coming this holiday.
“For almost 30 years, ‘Sonic’ has been cherished by fans all across the world, and we look forward to continuing to provide them memorable moments and experiences for many years to come.”
In the planned sequel, Jim Carrey, Ben Schwartz, and James Marsden will reprise their roles as Dr. Robotnik, Sonic, and Tom Wachowski, respectively, with Colleen O’Shaughnessey (Tails) and Idris Elba (Knuckles) joining the ensemble.
With that movie not hitting the big screen until April, details are scarce on the third installment in the franchise.
“The universe of Sonic the Hedgehog has been gripping imaginations for decades, and we are pleased to expand the limits of what this series is capable of with world-class offerings both on the big screen and for Sonic fans at home,” producer Neal H. Moritz teased.
“The sky truly is the limit, and I am ecstatic to be a part of generating new Sonic material for loyal fans as well as introducing Sonic to a new generation.”
